Instructions & Frequently Asked Questions
    Instructions:
  • Use the following functions to search are photo collection.
    • Click Pic Search Terms:  clicking on a thumbnail photo automatically  does a Search Term search on that subject.  If you are viewing on a smartphone, make sure to scroll down to view the results.  Note:  not all Search Terms have a thumbnail photo.
    • Word Search:  you can search all of the fields for a photo record by typing in text.  Enter a photo ID like "2-200" to find a specific photo.  Entering text like "Boy in hat" would find photo 2-108.  You can use operators like AND, OR, or a wildcard *.  Enter "Truck AND Car" as compared to "Transportation" which would find cars, truck, planes, trains, etc.
    • People & Search Terms.   People:  Search by people that we have identified in the photos.  Search Terms:  Search by groups of photos that we have assigned to photos.  Note: multiple Search Terms may be assigned to one photo.
    • Random: allows you to randomly view the photo collection.
    • All Photos: lists the entire photo collection by photo ID.  (Note:  If you are viewing the collection on a smartphone, that option is not provided because of the way it would display.)

    Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Who owns the photos that are in the Coppell Historical Society Online Collection?  Answer:  The Coppell Historical Society.
  • May I use the photos?  Answer:  Yes.  However, they are not allowed to be used for any illegal or objectionable purpose.  Please make sure to site the Coppell Historical Society if placed online or in any publications.
  • May I contribute photos to the Coppell Historical Society?  Answer:  Yes.  However, in general, we are not posting photos of anyone currently living in order to protect identities.  Please include a detailed description.
  • How can I contact you?  Answer:  When you view a photo record, there is a small icon on the right that says "Send Us Feedback."  If you are asking about a specific photo, make sure to include the Object ID number.
  • How can one add or append the description of a photo?  Answer: You are highly encouraged to do that by clicking on "Send Us Feedback."
  • Can the Coppell Historical Society print and send requested photos?  Answer:  No.
  • May any of the photos be used for profit?  Answer:  Generally, no.  However, consideration will be given on an individual basis.
  • Are there dates for the photos?  Answer:  In the majority of cases, no.  We have done our best to tag each photo as either Pre-1925 or Post-1925.  We use that date because the new school was built in 1928 and is a good divider for old and new.
  • Why is there a "2-" in front of the the photo number?  Answer:  In the future, if we choose to do so, we will add records using "1-" for our archive, "3-" for for our book library, and "4-" for our collection of items in Kirkland House and Minyards Store.
