What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor adventure that is happening all the time, all around the world. To play, participants use the Geocaching app and/or a GPS device to navigate to cleverly hidden containers called geocaches. There are millions of geocaches in 190 countries waiting to be discovered—there are probably even some near you right now.

What is the History of Coppell Geocaching Series?
It is a series of 7 geocaches scattered around Coppell which teaches you about the early history of the City.

History of Coppell #1 - Mustang Grapes (GC6YMYB) 98

History of Coppell #2 - Windmill Historical Marker (GC6YMYG) 135
History of Coppell #3 - Water Supply Tank (GC6YMYQ) 62
History of Coppell #4 - Train Depot (GC6YMYX) 110
History of Coppell #5 - Bethel School (GC6YMZ0) 81
History of Coppell #6 - Gibbs (GC6YMZ5) 86

History of Coppell - Bonus Reward Cache! (GC6YKK6) 50

If you find all 6 caches, it leads you to the Bonus Reward Cache where you get a reward for finding it. The last digits above are the number of people who have gone to the geocache and logged it since 1/5/2017 when it was created.  A total of 50 people found all of the caches and received the bonus award.

How do you get started?
  1. Go to:  https://www.geocaching.com/play
  2. Enter your e-mail, a user name and a password.
  3. It will then send an e-mail to the address you entered.  Go to it and click "Validate."
  4. Download the Geocaching app from GooglePlay or the AppStore and then install it on your smart phone.
  5. Sign into the app.  You can then view the location of millions of geocaches hidden around the world.  Enter a location like Coppell, Texas in the search field and it will display a list of all the geocaches in Coppell.  Click on the Map These Geocaches button and it will display all of them on a map.
  6. Click on one of the geocaches.   You will then see a box with
    1. Favorite points (how many people have given it likes.)
    2. The geocache name.
    3. How far away from you it is located.
    4. The difficulty, terrain and size.
    5. Clicking on that box then brings you to a screen that:
      1. Helps you navigate to the geocache
      2. Shows the activity and peoples comments about the geocache.  People often leave clues to help you find it.
  7. Find the geocache.  They can be very small from the size of an eraser on a pencil, to very large like an ammunition can.  They are usually the size of pill bottles.  The size is listed in 4 above.
    1. After finding the cache, sign the log inside.
    2. Then return the cache to its original position.
  8. When you get home, click on the box in Step 5 above and click Log.  Then log your find.  When you look at the map next time, it will show up as a smiley face.
