Included in THE COPPELL PAPERS is George Coppell's leather folio with "GEORGE COPPELL - NEW ORELANS" embossed in gold on it. It also included a notepad with detailed notes written in pencil. The notes are from his trip to Europe starting on May 10th, 1865, just two weeks before the end of the Civil War. George & Helen Coppell were married on 3/14/1862, a little more than a month before Federal troops occupied and blockaded New Orleans. The trip to Europe was undoubtedly their honeymoon which was delayed by three years.
Here is a table compiled from George Coppell's trip log. Only a banker or a train conductor would take such detailed notes.
