Gentry and Melton are two family names found several times in this cemetery. Alexander ‘Alex’ Gentry and his brother Issac ‘Milford’ Gentry came to the area in 1868 from Alabama after the Civil War. In a few years, the Gentry brothers had acquired land on the west side of Belt Line Road from current day Wrangler Road south to Valley View Lane (now part of DFW International Airport.) Alex’s son, Ernest , ran a small grocery/service station in the old part of Coppell. He married Cordelia Warren. Together they raised 6 daughters. Two of their six daughters,Dorothy Burnett Gentry McCain, and Margaret Louise Gentry Tucker are buried here, along with their husbands John Albert McCain and Mike Mitchell Tucker.
Another Gentry daughter, Bernice , married Ernest Melton, Sr.. The Melton Family moved to the area from Ennis, Texas. The Melton family also accumulated much land, and sold it to Dallas Power and Light which eventually become North Lake. They had 4 children . Two of their children are buried here. Ernest Melton, Jr. and Billy James Melton next to his wife Sharon Williams Melton.
Their first child, Barbara Jean Melton, married Richard Lee. Richard organized the first fire department in Coppell and was its fire chief for 17 years. He was a school board trustee for 19 years. Richard and Barbara have been active members of the Coppell Historical Society.
