In 1855, Kentucky native, Washington Curtis Bullock(1821-1889), his wife, Caroline Hunsaker Bullock (1823-1899), and their 4 children moved here and in 1866, they purchased 280 acres near what has become Old Town Coppell. Legend has it that Curtis Bullock built the first brick house in Dallas County, making the bricks from water flowing in a creek near his homestead. Curtis and Caroline had nine children, and left a legacy for many generations.
It is believed that over forty members of the extended Bullock family and their descendants were buried here, but only 14 gravestones carry the Bullock name. Many other early Coppell residents are also buried here.
Of their ten children, the following are buried here: Sarah Susanna Bullock Howell (1849-1887), Drake Washington Bullock (1854-1881), George Thomas Bullock (1856-1917) see photo, Margaret Emma Bullock Hyder (1858-1948) and infant, Nancy Virginia ‘Nannie’ Bullock Oliphint (1862-1856), Ora Bullock (1864-1881), and Julia Caroline Bullock (1866-1868). Sarah Susanna Bullock was married to Burrell Bertram Howell (1839-1929). After his death, she married Pvt. John S. Record (1847-1870) who is buried in Parrish Cemetery. Missouri Casandra Dungan Bullock (1864-1945) married Drake Washington Bullock and then after his death his younger brother George Thomas Bullock. Their children, Minnie F. Bullock McGee (1884-1974), Margaret Bullock Cole (1886-1920) and Benjamin ‘Ben’ Harrison Bullock (1890-1930) are buried here.
